IT COBOL Developer (VAC175) (Permanent)

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced COBOL developer to join our West Midlands-based Client's team. This is a key role to the team providing development and support to the business. It will involve regular contact with the business and other technical staff, supporting Client's policy administration system.

Job Specification:

The Role will involve:
• Analysing business requirements
• Developing solutions to meet the customers' needs within agreed timeframes
• Testing solutions at both unit and systems levels
• The investigation and diagnosis of production system incidents and changes
• Delivering solutions and providing fixes where required
• Producing documentation to team standards
• Support the test environments when required

Personal Specification:

The successful candidate should ideally be able to demonstrate;
• Extensive COBOL experience as a developer
• Understanding of Life and Pension products
• Experience of working to tight deadlines
• The ability to work both individually and as part of a team
• Well-developed interpersonal and communication skills
• A pro-active, analytical and enquiring nature and the ability to show initiative
• Degree qualification

Technical Skills (Primary)
• Database = DL1
• Operating System = Z/OS
• Programming = Cobol, Easytrieve, PL1, Assembler
• Transaction processing system = IMS CICS

Other (Would be advantage)
• MQ Messaging/Websphere/Message Broker
• Assyst
• TSO/ISPF
• JCL
• Flasher/Jobtrac

Salary £30,000-35,000
