Project Phoenix - CBD / SOA transition

Jumar xtras

There are many benefits of service oriented architectures and component based development and Gen now offers a high level of support for these approaches.  Project Phoenix facilitates the re-architecting of an existing application – restructuring the data and logic in the Gen model to remove relationships and dependencies and transform some or all of the application into an architected set of collaborating components.

Phoenix incorporates powerful purpose built analysis tools such as Architecture Analyser, supported by a well defined process that allows Jumar’s architects to rapidly derive an optimised candidate architecture for an application.  Once the architecture has been designed and agreed, Phoenix automates the majority of the changes required to the code and data structures to create fully encapsulated components from the selected portions of the existing system.  The automation separates the specification and implementation, substitutes views and calls, generates mappers and translation action blocks, removes cross component relationships and even generates test harnesses for the public operations it creates.

The automation has a huge impact on the time and resources that would otherwise be required to make such changes.  Even where automated change is not possible, Phoenix software will identify exactly which bits of logic do require manual intervention.
